Hey Everyone!
Ok so I totally remembered what happened this week! Yay! Miracles do
happen! For real though, last week was terrible. Last Monday was fairly
uneventful. Not much happened. Most of the week we spent planning for Grandpa
Red's memorial ( the old fellow who passed away after we cleaned his
house). Tuesday morning we had a really great lesson with the part member family
we have been working with. We taught the Word of Wisdom. He has a smoking
problem and has been working on quitting since last December and said that it
was ironic we taught that lesson because he had just started smoking again! He
has since recommitted to quit and has been smoke free for 5 days now. They are
pretty awesome! Then we helped plan the memorial for Grandpa Red which was
interesting....mostly because neither of us really knew him and the family had
no idea what they were doing! Then we had a lesson in this town named Morven
which is about 30 minutes away from Valdosta. We cover a bunch of little
outlying small towns that are each about 30 minutes away in all different
directions. We cover Quitman, Morven, Hahira, Lake Park, and some others that I
can't remember right now. It's fun. Anyway it was a referral from the ward
mission leader and its a lady who comes into his dentist office. I guess she was
taught by the missionaries a few years ago and she was recently telling him
about it so he decided to ask if she would like to meet with them again! It was
an interesting lesson but she let us come back and we had a really good lesson
last night so its good! She is really nice, she has some very interesting
theories and experiences but then again most people in the South do, they love
talking a bit about demonic spirits and casting them out and they are always a
bit obsessed with gifts of the spirit! We just have to really stay on task and
firmly teach what is true! Wednesday was not real exciting, and Thursday we had
ZTM which was a tad bit boring. I honestly can't really remember a lot of what
we talked about. Oops. Friday we had Grandpa Red's memorial. They had Sister
Wheelwright give a talk so she freaked out about that for a long time. It was a
very interesting memorial. There weren't really many people there and the people
from his family who spoke were really short in their thoughts and didn't really
say much about his life. It was very different. Oh and on Friday there was a
senior couple who came to the memorial service, They are here as military
relations. Their name is the Swanks and they are from Cedar City. They both seem
really nice! Then on Saturday we spent most of the day weekly planning because I
wanted to do a really good job and have lots of plans so that we always have
something to do. I have been slacking on that a little lately so it has been a
little more difficult. Yesterday was really awesome! Church was good and we had
a lesson with the part member family (the Dad is not a member and asked me the
question about Jesus being a God also). He was talking with us and all of a
sudden he was like" oh ya I am getting baptized Dec. 6."! We were like oh ok
really? I guess he had a lesson with the temple square missionaries and they put
him on date! I had been feeling like we could put him on date for sometime in
December but it never felt like the right time so I guess they were supposed to
do it! It was awesome though! lt has been fun working with them and then hearing
about the temple square missionaries. It's pretty awesome to see how he has
progressed from being unsure to being totally dedicated to baptism! He does have
some medical problems but as long as he takes his medication he is really good
and he understands and is accountable for his choices, his wife is really good
about helping him. He knows he has to work hard and he has studied and prayed
very hard so that he knows the difference between the "Holy Ghost" and then the
other more random thoughts that he struggles with. It's awesome how he has been
blessed as he has learned gospel principles with all aspects of his life! Caleb
will be just fine as he heads for Peru today! Each missionary has different
types of being homesick. I know that for me it feels like an "Eternity" since I
have seen ya'll, and I mostly can't believe that I have actually survived
because I didn't think I would. I mean I knew I would be the best missionary I
could be but I also could not imagine on Oct. 2, 2013 where I would be or how I
would survive a year from that time. I can't say that time has gone by fast and
I feel like a part of me is "missing" everyday, I hope that all makes sense!
Just yesterday in our apartment the other sisters were saying that they rarely
get homesick, I was like "I'm homesick all the time! But I have just learned to
deal with it and compartmentalize it in a corner of my mind and then I work just
as hard as I can because "Work" is the best cure and sharing the gospel and
watching how peoples lives change there is no words to describe! The Lord always
sends us Tender Mercies to lift us up, sometimes we don't realize it at the time
until we look back at recognize it for the blessing that it was for us. For me
it was the letters and packages that would randomly come from Karen and Tammy
and family members, its amazing how much just a simple card with "Have a good
week" on it is such a blessing. I was blessed with the Meachams the older
couple who helped with the ward in my first area but also really helped us
missionaries, I don't know how I would have acclimated for the first 6 months of
my mission without them. So Heavenly Father is always watching out for us even
when we feel our lowest, prayer is awesome and you can communicate with him
anytime anywhere! We have a really great week planned so it should be good! We
have exchanges this week and I am going to Douglas again so that should be fun!
I don't have a specific spiritual thought this week just kind of some thoughts.
I have been reading the New Testament and I am currently in Acts. I am really
enjoying seeing the growth in Christ's apostles. They start out dedicated and
knowing they want to follow Christ but to see their testimonies grow is cool.
Especially Peter, he goes from having faith and dedication but not being quite
sure how to do what he wants to do, to this amazing leader of the church with
unwavering faith! It's pretty awesome. I am enjoying the cool weather and am
still thankful every day that I only had one summer here! I love all of you and
hope you have a great week! It was great hearing about Sister Woods homecoming,
sometime soon it will be mine!
Love,
Sister Price
