THE WORK CONTINUES IN GEORGIA, FEBRUARY 24, 2014

February 24, 2014

 Hey Everyone!

Ok so this week has not been nearly as stressful as last week. The new Elders we got in are Elder Poti, who is zone leader with Elder Eklof, Elder Ah Fook, who is with Elder Judson and Elder Brooks who is with Elder Newman. We are really excited for Elder Poti! He used to be in this zone, he was just down in Waynesboro, he is super awesome! He seems to get along really well with Elder Eklof and so far things have been really good! Man I am sitting here typing and Sister Wood and I just turned to each other and said "wow we can't even remember what happened last week." Ok so Monday our appointment with Anthony (he has the 5 year old daughter) fell through so we just ended up tracting and trying to visit less actives.  Shae had her surgery two weeks ago and that went really well, the Dr also found a hernia he fixed while he was in there. She is still pretty sore but she is recovering well. We have been to visit her a few times and we got her really excited about geneology! We showed her the family history website and she says she is going to work on it while she recovers. Then on Tuesday we helped an old lady with her yard. Then we went out with a girl named Aubrie she is 26 and use to be inactive, met the missionaries while she was stationed in California and is active again! Aubrie is really great and goes out with us all the time. We went and tried to see a few people who weren't home and then we went and saw Miles. He is a funny guy. We taught him and committed him to be baptized like a month ago but we haven't been able to see him much since and he hasn't come to church! He always gives excuses but we have awesome lessons with him so he confuses me! Then on Wednesday we taught George. He is the one from Nigeria. He is so funny! He is actually very open he just has tons of questions. We finally got through all of the Restoration! We had actually planned to teach Plan of Salvation because his question last time was what we believe about life after death but that lesson didn't happen. He says he is going to come check out our church in the next couple weeks. He is really funny but he really does have lots of good questions. He wants to know why, if the Book of Mormon is from God, why other religions haven't accepted it and why the whole world doesn't have it! We told him that’s what we are trying to do as missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints! Then on Thursday we had a lesson with Anthony, sad news! He told us that he is moving to North Augusta this week! We are so sad because he also told us he is applying for a new job so he can come to church on Sundays! He also basically said he knows the church is true and we have taught him almost everything. We let the North Augusta sisters know and we sent his teaching record so they are getting a really awesome investigator! We told them how awesome he is and how they need to send us pictures when he gets baptized! Then Friday we visited Shae and mostly just tracted all day. We are basically just starting over tracting our area because I have pretty much been everywhere here! Saturday we saw Sister Keel. She is really cool and its always like a confidence boost to see her because she loves missionaries! Then yesterday church was really good. They called a new assistant ward mission leader and I am really excited to work with the new people! Sister Wood and I have come up with some new things we want to try when we contact people. That is probably what I struggle with! I love teaching lessons but I am not as brave as I want  to be when I contact people. Oh and we got two new sets of sisters in the zone, one in Waynesboro and one in Grovetown so we are excited to work with them. We get to go to MLC on Friday which is Missionary Leadership Conference so we are excited for that. I guess there is a member from the Presidency of the Seventy or something who is going to be there to talk to us so that will be fun. My scripture for the week is Alma 5:44-47 “For I am called to speak after this manner, according to the holy order of God, which is in Christ Jesus; yea, I am commanded to stand and testify unto this people the things which have been spoken by our fathers concerning the things which are to come.”

“And this is not all.  Do ye not suppose that I know of these things myself? Behold, I testify unto you that I do know that these things whereof I have spoken are true.  And how do ye suppose that I know of their surety?”

“Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God.  Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself.  And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me.”

“And moreover, I say unto you that it has been revealed unto me, that the words which have been spoken by our fathers are true, even so according to the spirit of prophecy which is in me, which is also by the manifestation of the Spirit of God.”  You were worried and asking me how my testimony is Mom, as I knock on doors and am rejected again and again but I want to assure you that my testimony is good and grows stronger with each day.  I do have an assignment for you Mom! You are to make an appointment and go out with the Sister Missionaries in your area, I think that would be great!  I think you would be just fine in bearing your testimony of the Gospel if it was needed!  I know that when the members here go with us it makes all the difference although some of the members are hesitant to share their testimonies. I really love my companion Sister Wood, I have a lot to learn being a Sister Training Leader, I love teaching and helping those that accept more about our Savior Jesus Christ and building upon their foundation and belief in Christ. That is about all of the happenings in Georgia! I love hearing from the Ward back home, Thank you Bishop England.   Oh it has been really warm this week, lets just say I am not looking forward to summer! Thanks for everyone's support and I love you all!

Love,

Sister Price

P.S.  I have sent a bunch of pictures of the mess the Ice storm did, it was similar to the East Winds we had in December a few years ago in Utah. I now have "Missionary Brain" I can no longer remember current events, current music or life before my mission!  I forgot to tell you there is a Dentist in North Augusta that will fix my retainer for me!!  love you all again!

EARTHQUAKES! AND GEORGIA ICE STORMS! February 17, 2014

February 17, 2014

 Hey Everyone!

Holy cow where to start! This has probably been my most exciting and the most boring week in Augusta. Well Monday started out, we had a really great lesson with Anthony,  we talked a lot about baptismal covenants and the symbolism of baptism.. We also ended up talking more about the plan of salvation with him and he is doing so awesome! If we could  just change his work schedule we could get him baptized no problem. He also told us about his "lady friend" who lives in Florida who has been trying to anti him but it’s not working. He said that she always calls to try and interrupt when she knows he has appointments with us so last time he said that if she called he was going to put her on speaker phone so she could hear the whole lesson. I thought that was hilarious and of course...she didn't call this time!  Oh and then he couldn't find his book of mormon because he said his sister had been over babysitting for him and she had moved things around and it was hilarious because the first pile of stuff I looked under I found it! It was really funny. We were supposed to teach him tonight but he went out of town because of the ice storm. ( I will get to that later). Then Tuesday it was really cold and rainy all day! We had district meeting where we played missionary jeopardy and that was really fun. I got second, Elder Eklof just barely beat me! Then we went out and tracted and froze for a while...then we went to the gas station and got some hot chocolate to warm up! Then we didn't want to go out and tract anymore so we went and visited some of our less actives. Then we froze our way through the rest of the night. Then it was on to Wednesday! All day long Wednesday we had freezing rain! It was so crazy! I took a bunch of pictures but I didn't think I would get to email today so I didn't bring my camera so I will send them next week. Anyway by the end of the day everything was coated in this really thick layer of ice! It was crazy! We weren't allowed out Wednesday or Thursday because of the storm. Pretty much all of Augusta was out of power at one time or another! We were really lucky because our power was only out from Thursday at 6 to Friday at 10. We were fine though, we just got out our flashlights and books. That flashlight dad sent with me was really handy. It's super bright so it was really nice! All night Wednesday night we could hear trees breaking and cracking and popping. Then we finally went out on Friday and it seriously looked like a tornado had hit Augusta! There were power lines down everywhere and poles and transformer things and trees EVERYWHERE! It was a total disaster area. Roads were blocked, almost no one had power and it was just insane. We just drove around our area for a while to look at it all. It kind of reminded me of when we had the wind storm except no one knew what to do to clean up! Then we went out and checked on our less actives and members in our area to see how they were. All of the ward members didn't have too much damage. Everyone lost power for a few days but other than that everyone did ok. The poor North Augusta(actually So. Carolina) sisters got trashed though! I guess trees fell on their car and just totally demolished it! They do live in a trailer sort of out in the forest. Our car and apartment were fine though so that was good. Then Friday afternoon we were leaving one of our less actives house and we saw this lady out trying to clean up her yard all by herself so we went and helped her! We had brought clothes to change into in our car in case we came across someone who needed help. I mean everyone needed help but here was someone we could help right now. She tried to tell us no but we didn't listen! We changed our clothes and cleaned up pretty much her whole yard! It was awesome! She just kept telling us how nice we are. I guess she is going through a divorce and her only daughter went to live with her ex husband so she is kind of having a rough time ( no coincidences right!). We are hoping maybe something will come of it! If not at least she will remember how nice we are! We went over last night to see how she was doing and she took us over to her neighbor who is elderly and told her all about how we helped her so we are going to finish cleaning up her neighbors’ yard tomorrow. Oh and after our visit she took us to get some food to thank us for helping her! She is really cute. Then Friday night we got a text that a bunch of people were going to meet at the stake center to help clean up and we would get “Mormon helping hands” shirts so we were super excited about that! So we talked about that for a while and then as we were going to sleep all of a sudden our apartment started shaking!! At first we thought it was the neighbor slamming the door but it kept shaking! It was so crazy! Then we texted Sister Meacham to see if they felt it too and they did! I guess the center was about 30 miles away from us and it was like a 4.4 magnitude. I was more freaked out by the earthquake than the ice storm! Then on Saturday we went and helped clean up trees for a long time! All I can say is that I tried to lift and work like I could 5 months ago and that was a bad idea! I am so dreadfully out of shape it’s pathetic! I am still a pretty good lifter but I don't have nearly the stamina I used to have. I think I pulled a muscle in my back because by the end of the day I couldn't even bend over. I felt like an old person and it was terrible! I am going to work out more because how I am now is just sad!! Then we went and visited some more less actives on Saturday after we cleaned up and then we had transfer calls! I am staying in Augusta for another six weeks! Myself and Sister Wood are being made “Sister Training Leaders”.  What is that you say? Well we will be over quite a few New Sister companionships, we will go on exchanges with them, we will help them set goals, we will do training meetings, sort of like “Girl Zone Leaders”.  We will also travel to Macon next week and randomly to attend training meetings and to also Teach some of those Training meetings!  I THINK IT SOUNDS AWESOME!   We have a lot of new sisters coming in today from the MTC and right now in my surrounding areas we have some super great Sisters waiting to be Trainers for them!! After this next transfer I will have been out for 6 months! That is so crazy! I will also have been in Augusta for 6 months. That is a long time! Then yesterday I woke up and I was super grumpy. I had a terrible morning but church was really good! Then after church we went and visited the lady who we helped clean up and she talked to us for a long time. She is a talker. Then we went to dinner with this less active that we found while we were knocking. She is super nice and I think we might be able to help her come back to church. She just needs some fellowship. She made homemade chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles and it was really good! Then today I didn't think I would get to email so we took ingredients so I could make drinks (Mormon Margarita Monday, ha, ha) at the Meachams for those that got transferred.  Elder Hatch is going he was made a trainer.  Elder Webb from Syracuse is going (he looked very sad) Elder Spencer one of our Zone Leaders was going home. So our one Zone leader stayed Elder Eklof (I will probably be reprimanded again for making drinks, since I am the “Disobedient One”, I do laundry on Sunday and I used the Meachams computer, and I was reprimanded for my disobedience to the rules). We will be getting a new Zone Leader and maybe this one will not let Elder Eklof be so power hungry, I think Elder Spencer knew he was going home and just sort of gave up. So anyway as we passed the Library we saw that it was OPEN!!  So we made drinks and then I came over here!  Well that was my week but the best part was that I FINALLY REALLY GOT TO DO SERVICE!!  Not just a kind word at the door, but real Service and it paid off!!  I don’t think that lady would have responded to just our knocking but being able to physically help her made such a difference, then to be introduced to her neighbor also!!  I have been trying to say in District Meetings and in our Activity Fireside we had that doing service and getting to know the people on a less formal basis might be what really helps dispel the fear of “Mormons” because we really are a cool people!! So that I think is all of my super exciting week. Hopefully I haven't left anything out! I am safe and well and thanks for all of the prayers and support! I love all of you!

 Love,

Sister Price

P.S. Thanks Dad, keep posting my weekly weather forecast to me!! It really lets me be prepared for what’s coming in the week! (the earthquake was a surprise though).

Maybe a Transfer?? February 10, 2014

February 10, 2014

 Hey Everyone!

Ok well it has been an interesting week. On Monday night when we were out tracting we ran into this lady who is less active who doesn't even have her records in the ward but she was really nice and let us in to talk! Her husband is in the army so they are here for a while for that. I guess her reason for not being active is because she feels like LDS people were always putting her down for having an education and having a career and not being just a stay at home mom. I can see how she would feel that way but now that we know where she is we can help her with her issues! She was really nice though. Then we were supposed to have a lesson with Shelldle but she stood us up. Her roommates said she wasn't home but we are about 99% sure she was home. Then we went over to see Shae. We haven't been able to see her much because she has been working a lot lately. She is having surgery today to remove the mass on her abdomen so she is nervous for that. We went over with the Elders last night to give her a blessing, it was very nice. The rest of our week has just been a lot of knocking! We finally got back in contact with some of our investigators. We got in contact with George, he is the one from Nigeria and we had another lesson with him where he asked a lot of questions. He has some interesting questions. He wanted to know why we don't televise our services so we had to explain about general conference is on television locally around Utah, it is on the internet also and is in our church houses through satellite.  The majority of our services are not televised because the LDS church is not a paid clergy and we do not seek for any outside payment for our church services.  Our services are open to any and all who want to visit but are not televised as they are special and sacred services to us. He also asked, that in his experience Mormons seem very honest and trustworthy, than why are people so wary of them? I answered Satan ( I felt strongly by the spirit to say that and I have learned to go with the spirit) but I was not  going to leave it at that but I think the member who was with us (Sister Dransfield, she is from Bountiful stationed here with her husband and family) felt like that was a little blunt so she said something about it, I can't remember what. Still so many misconceptions about the LDS church and Mormons!!

Oh and I guess Sister Wood's dad served here in Augusta on his mission so we went and visited the former Bishop who was serving while he was here. He was a nice old guy, they were very happy to have us visit them. We will have to go over there more often!  We finally got back in contact with Miles, he said he got busy with work because of the snow and his neighbor died so he hasn't been home lately. He said he would come to church yesterday but he never showed up. We are supposed to have a lesson with him tonight so we will see what he has to say. Then on Friday we had a really great lesson with Anthony! He is going to try and get work off  this Sunday so he can come to church, he got hired so he could work weekends so getting Sundays off is a struggle for him. Other than that we have just been knocking a lot! We have met some interesting people. One guy claimed he knew all about Mormons so we asked what he knew and he said something about a wooden submarine and Joseph Smith translated the third golden tablet. It took us a minute to connect the wooden submarine with the brother of Jared. We thought that was kind of funny. A few people said they have already met with missionaries but we are pretty sure they are getting us confused with Jehovah's Witness's. We get confused with them a lot! We also got a new ward mission leader called yesterday in church and we are excited to work with him! His name is Brother Rafn and his family just moved here because he is in the military. They could either be here until May or for a few years so we are hoping they are here for a few years! Their family was at our Missionary Ward Activity and he seems really excited about missionary work!

I finally got the dress and the belt, I really like it, good advice on that one Tammy! It is a good day today in the low 60’s but that is going to change the end of the week!! Possibly more SNOW!!  I know that you all are wondering of the ongoing “NECKLACE” SITUATION!  I just decided to accept it graciously and write a note stating Thank you.  I do feel that I am going to be transferred next week, I felt that even before the necklace situation.  I am glad that the missionary activity was a success and hopefully will help the continuation of members being missionaries but now that it is done I have had the feeling that I now have other work to do in another area. I feel that I could possibly be going either to the Savannah area or way up and over to Auburn, Alabama. I guess there is a small Young Single Adult Branch on the Auburn Campus and right now they need some missionaries to serve there.  They had Elders serving there but again temptation rises up and they were having a hard time with all the girls on campus.   ( I will leave it at that statement).  They think that the area will do better with some Sisters serving (yay for Sisters).  Mom, I know that Colton served on the Texas Tech Campus and had a singles branch he was a part of on his mission.  Hey cousin Colton how did you and your companion resist the temptation of being on Campus?  I remember your letters and I remember you talking about various situations when you served there but now that I may be a part of that how did you as Elders handle things?

I do love getting to know the people here in Georgia but I do feel like “Aaron in the book of Alma chapter 21”.  As I said before there are so many misconceptions about Mormons here and that we don’t believe in the Bible and that we worship Joseph Smith and he wrote the “Book of Mormon”.  I just wish that we as missionaries were  at least given a chance to explain and have an intelligent conversation about what our true beliefs are and do not twist them to serve their own purpose.  Well that is the joy of being a Missionary and trying in a small way to dispel the “Myths of Mormonism”! That is pretty much the happenings here in Augusta. Oh and sometimes when it rains it does smell really terrible here! (Paper Mill, Almost worse than lake stink!) I am not getting an extension so I have to finish! I love everyone! Thanks for the package Aunt Stephanie!

 Love Sister Kaitlyn Price

P.S.  Tell Michelle thanks, but I ran out of time at the library to totally answer her email but I’m thinking about her!! Good luck Dad on your interviews – Meredith keep him updated on who you think will be good for next year!  No one can take your place though I’m thinking!!

SNOW IN GEORGIA!! Augusta Zone conference - February 3, 2014

                                                            February 3, 2014

Hey Everyone!

Well what a week it has been. Just when I thought missionary work couldn't get any harder and life couldn't get any more awkward I am always proved wrong! Monday night after P-day we had a really great lesson with Anthony at the Lee's about the Book of Mormon. It went really well and he loved it. Then on Tuesday it was pretty cold! We had some appointments that stood us up and then we tried tracting but no one was answering their doors so that was a little rough. Then right before dinner it started raining and got really cold and President Cottle said that if it got below freezing and there was moisture in the air we had to stay in. So we stopped at the store right before dinner and I got stuff to make clam chowder and we stayed in and had soup! Then about eight it stopped raining and started snowing! I took some pictures I will send. Wednesday it wasn't snowing but it was still pretty cold and things were really icy so we had to stay in the whole day. It was a pretty long day! We watched all of the church movies we had and studied a lot and took a few naps. Then Sister Wood had hair dye so she made me dye her hair! It was scary and I was super stressed out but it turned out good! I'm basically professional now(. Just kidding really I'm not and I would be ok if I never had to dye another person's hair.) Then Thursday we had to stay in until noon so the ice could melt. It was a very exciting few days. Not! Then we tried to go to a few appointments Thursday and got stood up some more. Then we went and knocked and no one answered and if they did answer as soon as they saw us they just shut the door. That is about how our knocking has gone all week. It's just been super great. (sarcasm) We did have a good lesson with Anthony Thursday night but then he has been avoiding us for the rest of the week so I'm not sure what is up with him. Hopefully we can see him soon! Then Friday we had zone conference and that went really well! I loved it. He talked all about obedience (and really I'm very obedient, it just never occurred to me that the laundry thing might be breaking the rules) but I guess there are a lot of missionaries who aren't getting up on time and following the morning schedule. However I have no problem getting up on time and following the morning schedule but we always knew that wouldn't be a problem for me. He also talked about the "trust box" and how we should always stay inside the trust box. He also mentioned that when you obey the rules and commandments then it really gives you more freedom. He said something to the effect of "you know some kids growing up don't even have any rules because their parents trust them and know they are obedient" and I was like ya pretty much that was me growing up. Then he said that he doesn't want to be a mission president who has to make lots of extra rules so we should be obedient and follow the rules we have! It was really nice because we were combined with the North Augusta zone, they had to switch things around because of the snow. It was great because they have five sets of sisters! So we got to be with other sisters and it was just great. I played the piano for zone conference and Pres. Cottle led (WOW he leads fast, he even beats out Wayne Adams, but he loves music and says he wants this mission to be a singing mission!) Then Saturday no one really wanted to talk to us, however Elder Hatch and Elder Judson had a baptism Saturday night that went really well. It was an older man named Bill whose fiance had been a member for about two years. The Elders have been working with him for quite a while so it was really exciting for them! He is going to be a really solid member and it was probably one of the best baptisms I have been to. Everything went perfect and the spirit was really strong. It was really good for them. We really wanted Anthony to be there especially because it was such an awesome baptism but he didn't come. We were sad. Then we went and dropped in on our investigator Shelldle who hasn't been talking to us and I'm pretty sure is bi-polar. We made an appointment for tonight but she didn't look happy at all to see us so I have a feeling we are going to be dropping her. Then Sunday came. We got a new bishopric! I am really excited. Poor Bishop Burgess has been so stressed out lately. This is such a difficult ward to be the bishop of what with the mess the old Macon mission made (I will have my Mom post what those problems were on a separate post) and there is just so much poverty. It's really difficult. The new Bishop is Bishop Marshman, he used to be the Young Mens pres and he is going to be such a good bishop. His whole family is great and he will just be great. Then his first counselor is Brother Eller who was in the bishopric before and 2nd counselor is Brother Brosnohan who until now has been our ward mission leader. They will all be really good. We are really hoping they make Bishop Burgess ward mission leader because he would be the most awesome ward mission leader ever! He always really wanted to focus on missionary work as a bishop but he couldn't because his time was all taken up with the welfare and stuff. He would just be such a great ward mission leader, just what the ward needs and after being bishop of this ward it would be really stress free! I think all of the changes will be good.

After church the awkwardness happened. So remember around Christmas when I talked about the young man who just followed us around and talked to us and asked us weird questions? Well I have been able to avoid him for a while but yesterday it was not to be. He came up to me yesterday and gave me this box and then just like took off and I knew that it was just going to be bad. I wouldn't open it, I made Sister Wood open it. Anyway it had a necklace in it and then this letter that he said "wasn't a love letter" but basically said there is just something about me and he has a crush on me and he wants me to write him after I get transferred. I feel bad for him because I guess he had some accident and he has brain damage so he isn't quite all there, but still it’s just awkward! I told President Cottle about it in my letter today so I am about 99% sure I will get transferred in two weeks.( I can't believe it's almost transfer time again! I have been out for four months! Craziness.) I took pictures of the box and necklace so I will send those. Then after church we tried to knock and no one was home and then we had dinner at the Meachams. I took the box so Sister Meacham could see it and then of course all of the Elders had to look at it. Then the zone leaders told us that they have been running interference for me for like the last month with this young man as he was trying to get our phone number. I was really thankful for that! Then we went out and all of our appointments stood us up and we weren't even going to knock on doors because of the super bowl. I have definitely had better weeks!

I finished 1st Nephi doing the whole footnotes thing and I needed a break so I decided I wanted to read the whole Book of Mormon before the end of this transfer so I am working on that now! I just love the Book of Mormon. I love the part at the end of 2nd Nephi where the Lord is telling Nephi how people will react to the Book of Mormon and how they will say just like in Chapter 29 verse 6 "Thou fool that shall say: a bible, we have got a bible, we need no more bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the jews?" and that part just makes me laugh here in the South it’s almost like the Lord knows exactly what people are saying to us right now!  Then in verse 8 “Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am god. That I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another.  And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.”  Then verse 9 “And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure. And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever.” Verse 11 “For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them;for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works, according to that which is written.” Verse 12 “The jews shall have the words of the Nephites and the Nephites of the jews . .That I shall speak unto all nations of the earth and they shall write it!”  I love all the things it says about Christ's coming and the Gospel of Christ. The Book of Mormon is true and I love it! If I do get transferred my goal is to again read the entire Bible in six weeks before the next transfer takes place! I love goals!  I love how The Book of Mormon is the word of God and the Bible is the word of God also! I challenge all to continue to study and read the scriptures!

Well pray for Sister Wood and I this week that maybe someone will want to talk to us! I love all of you and thanks for your support! Stay safe and I will pray for snow and rain for you in the West!

Love,

Sister Price

P.S. Oh I have befriended an inactive lady by the name of Sister Keel, she is in her 60’s and very sweet.  She was baptized in 2006 but recently her husband passed away and some other family members and then the ward was split and her son is in the other ward now. I think with love and encouragement we can bring her back to church, she just needs a friend – She has promised me she will come with me to church before I get transferred.
