Hey Everyone!
As usual
when we have a good week then we must have our down week, it just seems to go
that way! It started out on Tuesday with
all of our appointments canceling. It is always so disappointing when that
happens because usually our backup plan is...knocking. It just gets kind of
frustrating sometimes. We also haven't been able to get in touch with any of
the people who canceled. They won't answer their phones or the door. Oh well we
will just have to keep trying. It has also been a rough week for contacting. It's
been really hard to find people at home and when we have found them at home
they usually don't want to talk to us. You all know that the hardest thing for
me is talking to people! It is so stressful for me and sometimes I just dread
it. I'm not very good at it and no one seems to be able to tell me how I
can get better! They just say figure it out and I really don't like it when
people tell me that. So I am now
requesting for those who read this email and have been missionaries even if it
was forever ago I would really love to have you send me some of the door
approaches that you remember worked for you, I know there will be some jokester
ones but along with those some help please!!
My email again is kaitlyn.price@myldsmail.net I really would appreciate it!!
Wednesday I was able to get my retainer fixed
so that was nice. We also had a really good lesson with George. He was our one
investigator who didn't cancel on us. It went really well! He is struggling a
little bit with the plan of salvation, mostly with the spirit world but I think
he is getting it. He also said that he was reading through the New Testament trying
to find out exactly how God wants people to worship him so we gave him that
talk you sent me (The Blueprint of Christs Church by Elder Tad Callister)! We
go see him again tomorrow so we will find out how he liked the talk! He said he
was going to study it. He is a really funny guy. Miles we met while we were
knocking and he always says he loves our visits but then he cancels
appointments and won't answer the phone so we can't figure him out. Oh and we
got a call from the North Augusta sisters and they said that Anthony is going
to get baptized on March 29! We are super excited for him. He is super awesome.
I am really sad he had to move though! Oh well I might still claim him as a
baptism...ha ha. On Friday we had zone training and Sister Wood and I had to
give a training on being Disciples of Christ. We found a really fantastic
article about President Kimball and how he was a true disciple of Christ. It
told a story about how he went to a prison to visit inmates and how he just
showed true love to them and didn't condemn them. It was a really great
article. Then we talked of how would you be if Christ were your companion? We
also talked about having confidence because the Lord has confidence in us. That
is something I really struggle with as you all know! Confidence is just one of
my weaknesses! Oh well I guess it's something I get to work on. I guess I'm
meant to do what Ether 12 says and make my weaknesses become strong! It is
going to take some work though!
We are going to start exchanges this week. Our
first exchange is with the Grovetown sisters, Sister Griffin and Sister Walker.
I am going to go to Grovetown with Sister Griffin and Sister Walker is going to
come here with Sister Wood. I am really excited! Our goal is to work on our
teaching and testifying and being more bold and talking to everyone! It is
going to be difficult but that is how you grow!
You asked in your last letter about
my area and said that you and Dad watched an episode of “COPS” filmed just in
the last month in RICHMOND COUNTY GEORGIA that is certainly Augusta and all
those brick buildings and winding streets are my tracting areas!! In fact a couple weeks ago when we were
knocking doors in one of those red brick apartments and older man came to the
door talked with us briefly then said “You young girls should not be out here!
Don’t you know they just filmed an episode of COPS right out there!!” We
thanked him for his concern and assured him we don’t go out after dark. At this point I am not picking up any kind of
southern drawl Uncle Greg, if anything what I have noticed is that people have
a tendency to leave out the “T” in words like “Street”, “Stressed” or “Straight”. Then they add a “K” so it sounds like “Skreet”,
“Skressed” or “Skraight”. Makes me not
feel so bad about our “Layton, Utah” saying “Lay-Un” or “Mou-Un”. Ways of speech are so interesting. Also Uncle Greg I have tried Collard greens,
I really don’t like them. I tried to
imagine and talk myself into believing they were spinach! But it is really like not very good at all.
Sad story though the fellow that gave me the mustard seed necklace got sick or
something I am not exactly sure and he has been in the hospital. I do hope he is OK. The other young man that we had to turn over
to the Elders for teaching had an Uncle die a few weeks ago and ever since then
he has not been around so hopefully if his family has not turned him against things
he can be contacted again.
I am trying to pinpoint what I most
want to share with the people of Georgia so as to improve my door
approach. But there isn’t just one thing
I need to share. I want to share so many
things that have blessed my life. I have
a testimony of the restoration of Christs church in this dispensation, How
wonderful is the plan of Salvation, The
blessing of Modern day prophets-why
would god not want us in this day to have that guidance are we not as important
as the people in the Bible and Book of Mormon. The great gift of the
atonement-that the world was so loved by our Father in Heaven that he sent his
son Jesus who also was willing and loved us all past, present and future to
take our sins upon him and suffer more than any of us can comprehend, then
allow himself to be crucified and let his spirit leave his body. Then to be resurrected again so that we might
all have life after death. There is so
much to share! I feel so inadequate
with my ability to be able to initiate the good message that I have with my
lack of confidence in opening a conversation.
Everyone just seems so busy and preoccupied. I really do feel your prayers on my behalf
and I just want you and Dad to know that you are great parents! I am serving with some good missionaries but
in conversation I have come to realize what a great relationship I have with my
parents! I appreciate more than ever
your example and your encouragement and your knowledge. You are pretty great! I am determined to improve my weakness, I
love the scriptures, love my Heavenly Father, love my Savior Jesus Christ.
We are going to work really hard to turn
things around this week. One of the scriptures I really loved this week while
we were working on our training was 3 Nephi 5:13 "Behold, I am a disciple
of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word
among his people, that they might have everlasting life." That is really
what I'm out here trying to do! I know a lot of people don't understand
that and I'm not very good at helping people know that's why I'm here when I
first meet them but I'm working on it! I have been called to declare his word
and I know that I am here for a reason. I know it's true and I just want to
help other people see that! Well I love you all and hope you have a great week!
Love, Sister Price
