Hey Everyone! March 17,
2014
Ok so this
certainly has been a very interesting week. Monday we went to try and see Miles
but he wouldn't answer the door so we aren't sure what is up with him. Then we
went and saw the lady we helped clean up her yard but I just don't think she is
ready for our message right now but maybe someday in the future. Tuesday we had
district meeting and we talked about contacting!!! It was actually really good.
Sister Wood and I have been practicing contacting and stuff like that. The
things we talked about we mostly already do but its nice to have a reminder and
to know that I am doing the same things as everyone else even if we don't get
the same results! Then Tuesday it was so HOT!!! I mean not really but for March
it was! It was almost 90 degrees and really humid. I was dying. I'm am so not
looking forward to the summer! Oh well I just have to remember that I only have
one summer. I can do it. Then Tuesday night we went out with Sister Smith and
we wanted to see a lady who was sort of a referral...the scouts helped her
clean up her yard! She was super nice and she invited us in and she really got
along well with Sister Smith. She had a lot of questions and we didn't actually
teach a lesson but she invited us to stop by anytime because she has more
questions! She was way nice and I have a good feeling about her. Ok then
Wednesday was the really exciting day! Wednesday we were starting exchanges
with the Grovetown sisters (Sister Griffin and Sister Walker) right after
interviews. We had interviews with President Cottle that day. We were also
going out with Sister Rafn Wednesday morning before we did exchanges Wednesday
afternoon. She is the wife to our new ward mission leader and she is just so
sweet! She is just the kind of person you can't help but like. We have this
investigator named Anastasia who we have been working with but we weren't
able to contact her at all last week! She wasn't answering the door or any
of our phone calls so we were super discouraged. We wanted to go try and see
her but we weren't sure if Sister Rafn was the person to take because they
pretty much have polar opposite personalities....however we just kept
having this feeling we needed to take Sister Rafn! We just couldn't understand
it but we decided to just go with it ( always follow the spirit). We go to
Anastasia's and we really aren't sure if she is even going to answer but she
does answer! It is also super awkward at first and things aren't really going
well! I was thinking "Man I knew we shouldn't have brought Sister
Rafn" however we just kind of struggled on and hoped that it would get
better!(always keep a prayer in your heart and mind)! We were teaching Plan of Salvation and just
kind of seeing how she was. Anastasia had been in the hospital so thats why she
hadn't answered the door or her phone. I guess that is a good reason. ha
ha. I don't know if I just didn't notice it in Utah but people here
go to the ER for everything! Oh I have a cold? Better make a trip to the ER. It
is really strange. Anyway so we talked about that and then she mentioned that
her grandma was going to arrive shortly (her super Baptist grandma who is an Usher
at her church) so that kind of made us think “oh boy this is going to be a
short lesson”. Anastasia’s grandma gets
there and she kind of gives us that look (we get "the look" a
lot but its kind of hard to explain...like we are trying to convert people to
the dark side or something) and then we notice that Sister Rafn is just like
STARING at this lady and we were all just kind of thinking” ok this is weird”.
Then all of sudden Sister Rafn says "hey I know you....you are the lady my
husband and I helped because you broke down"! Turns out that this lady
broke down in the middle of the freeway on her way home from Columbia
and the Rafn's stopped to help her! We then had an awesome lesson with
Anastasia and her grandma about the Plan of Salvation and it totally softened the
grandma up. It was awesome and it is just amazing to me how Heavenly Father
really does know what he is doing!! (Always a tender mercy when you trust
completely in the promptings of the Holy ghost!)
Then we had interviews with President
Cottle. That was fun. I guess missionaries around here are really
struggling following the morning schedule (aka getting up at 630) so he asked
how Sister Wood and I were doing at that. Sister Wood had already had her
interview so he knew how we were doing. I told him fine (because I make Sister
Wood get up at 6:15 so we have more time to exercise. I actually have pushed
it to 6:11 but don't tell her.) Then I explained that getting up at 6:30
is really easy for me because I used to get up earlier than that to go ride all
the time at home! President Cottle asked
“Oh what ride your bike”? Then I said “No to ride my horse then clean my stall
and then finish out my day”! Apparently
last time I told him I ride horses it didn't sink in or something and
then we started talking about horses. Then I went and got my white
handbook because I taped a picture of Gary on the outside of it and he thought
it was hilarious that I taped a picture of my horse on my white handbook.
He also was really surprised that I got up at 6:00 or before to ride my horse
when I was at home...he said “ I usually just rode in the afternoon”! Anyway we bonded over that and now I
think President Cottle “Really Knows” who I am and I think he really likes me.
Then we started exchanges! I went to Grovetown with Sister Griffin and it
was super fun! They are still brand new there so we visited a lot of less
actives and just knocked around in their neighborhoods. It was awesome because
I discovered that I really can talk to people! I did great in Grovetown and we
had some awesome contacts....I think people in our area in Augusta just aren't
very nice. The exchanges went really well. However when we went home
for dinner and I looked in their fridge there was nothing there!! It was
so sad! They just had a bunch of frozen dinners! It's amazing to me how
many Sisters and Elders don't know how to cook simple healthy foods or budget their
money so they have enough money to buy food that they can cook! It is just
crazy. Then Sister Wood and I got
back together. I really like Sister Griffin and Sister Walker. They
are pretty awesome.
The the rest of our week was fairly
uneventful until last night. Oh boy. We met the most interesting fellow while
we were knocking. It started out well and he was talking about how he read
the Book of Mormon and how he was a "searcher" and stuff and
then he just started talking about strange things. He started going on about
how there is an "inner earth" and that is where God lives and how you
can get there by tunneling through the North pole and Antarctica to Mt. Sinai and how that's really where
Moses was taking the children of Israel and lots of just very interesting and
unique theories. He talked to us for like an hour and a half about all of this
stuff. Oh and reincarnation. I guess we keep having lives until we are perfect
and if we have a good life on earth we have the chance to be reincarnated
and live in inner earth. Like I said, very interesting theories. He was
really close on some stuff! Just really far away on other things. Anyway
that pretty much sums up my week! Tomorrow we are starting exchanges with the
Waynesboro sisters so that should be fun! I am staying here with Sister
Richardson and Sister Wood is going to Waynesboro with Sister Carrigan. I am
excited! We seem to have gotten pretty un-dramatic sisters with this latest
transfer, so that is really good! My scripture that I really like
this week because we have been studying about “finding” is Alma 13:24 " For behold, angels are declaring it unto many at
this time in our land; and this is for the purpose of preparing the hearts of
the children of men to receive his word at the time of his coming in his glory."
I really like this because it lets us know we aren't alone in our efforts!
People are being prepared everywhere, we just have to find them. That is
the hard part! I hope everyone has a great week and a Happy St. Patricks
day!! I love all of you!
P.S.
that picture of the opossum you sent me “YES THAT IS THE “ROUS” that I
saw in the dark by the dumpsters!! They
are not cuddly looking animals! Also I
got your package, thanks for the Peanut Butter M&M’s, but Sister Wood does
not like Peanut Butter!! More for
me!! Transfers are coming up on April 1st,
ha, ha, April Fools Day, but yes they are seriously on that day! Hope Grandma gets feeling better. I am sending a picture of a very interesting
Truck I saw, Look for it soon in your Area!! (I should have taped a Book of
Mormon on it somewhere) Remember “Always listen to the Holy Ghost, it is our
Father in Heaven speaking to us and we must follow the promptings no matter how
strange it seems at the time”!
